Detroit and Grand Rapids, Michigan. January 3, 2024—In a move that unites the creative energies of two Michigan-based architecture firms, Lott3Metz Architecture and Crutcher Studio, Inc., are joining forces to deliver greater creativity, insights and project types in Detroit and Grand Rapids. This combination creates a new architecture firm with shared values, vibrant design and complementary expertise—enabling it to positively contribute to urban evolution in Detroit and Grand Rapids. The new union will be known as Lott3Metz Crutcher Architecture (L3MC).

Established in 2001, Lott3Metz Architecture earned its reputation for positively shaping the future of Western Michigan by evaluating client needs within the context of the community. Beyond architectural design, the firm’s extensive experience includes preserving historic resources, finding new uses for urban land, and policy, planning and municipal collaboration.

Ken Crutcher, a past Associate Professor and adjunct faculty at Lawrence Technological University and Eastern Michigan University, founded Detroit-based Crutcher Studio, Inc., in 1998. The firm facilitated many challenging design projects while the principal, Mr. Crutcher, engaged in multifaceted professional and academic activities, including serving as the Vice President of the National Organization of Minority Architects–Detroit Chapter and as Chairman of the City of Farmington, Michigan Planning Commission.

“We’re extremely proud to join forces with Ken Crutcher, a prominent architect who brings an impressive, experienced portfolio and a deep, personalized knowledge of the Detroit community,” said Ted Lott, Principal of Lott3Metz Architecture. “This strategic union is indicative of our shared philosophies and solid foundations. Together, we’ll create designs that enrich people’s lives while emphasizing the exceptional historical aspects of Western and Southeast Michigan.”

L3MC will take a fresh approach to design solutions within a context of high environmental consciousness, citizen awareness and community participation. The partnership will offer design and planning services for new construction, renovations, and historic preservation of commercial and residential projects—balancing the best use of space with the diverse needs of the Detroit and Grand Rapids communities and beyond.
