I completely agree. In many ways, we look to Minneapolis for best practice concepts. Great conversation changer.

Let's hear it for Lott3Metz! May your clients always be nice.

To quote Church Hill:
"We have before us an ordeal of the most grievous kind. We have before us many, many long years of struggle and of suffering. You ask, what is our policy? I will say: It is to build the little projects, by building, by block, and by district, with all our might and with all the strength that God can give us; to build against a lamentable catalogue of design crime. That is our policy. You ask, what is our aim? I can answer in one word: It is victory, victory at all costs, victory in spite of all authorities, victory, however long and hard the road may be!"

Thanks for your thoughtful comments, Ted. As you know, I agree that the current condition is not good enought. But I think that incremental change is a very effective tool in this case. Incremental chage will allow us to accomplish things that we couldn't otherwise accomplish.

Stay tuned for some nice tweaks on Division.

I read the Crystal Ball with great interest... especially the part about fees going to the lowest common denominator. I believe we're in a paradigm shift the likes of which we haven't seen since the beginning of the Industrial Revolution. The 200 years since have been the Era of the Company, and ruled by these three virtues: Quality, Speed, and Economy (or Better-Faster-Cheaper.) But today, if all we have is some combination of Better-Faster-Cheaper, we're unlikely to survive. The Age of the Idea, which is now dawning, has three very different virtues: Patience, Generosity, and Connectedness. I've been blogging about these ideas for awhile at usefulstuff.posterous.com, and would love to hear your thoughts, either here or there... thanks!

Hey, Jeff. Thanks for the comment. I'm sure we agree about a great many things. Greg and I are going to try and make your talk in September. If time allows, we'd love to buy you a drink. Looking forward to meeting you.
